Invisalign Frequently Asked Questions – Prosper, TX

Answering Our Patients’ Invisalign Questions

What exactly is Invisalign?

Invisalign treatment involves making orthodontic corrections to the smile with a series of see-through aligners instead of brackets and wires.

What will the Invisalign process look like?

The Invisalign process is different for every patient; it is carefully planned out using digital technology, and you will be given a number of personalized aligners that will put a small amount of pressure on your teeth in order to guide them toward a more properly aligned position.

What benefits are associated with Invisalign?

First of all, Invisalign clear aligners are very discreet. Most people will not even realize that you have them to begin with, which makes it easier to feel confident about smiling in public. Another advantage is that you can eat whatever you want since your aligners can be taken out of your mouth during meals. And of course, there’s the fact that many people find the smooth Invisalign aligners to be significantly more comfortable than brackets and wires that could potentially irritate your soft oral tissues.

When will I need to switch to the next set of Invisalign aligners?

It depends on your orthodontic needs. Some patients will need to change their aligners every week, but in other cases, it may be necessary to wear each aligner for two months at a time. We will let you know what’s necessary to help your teeth reach their desired alignment.

How long do I need to wear my Invisalign aligners every day?

You should make a point of keeping your aligners in your mouth for 20 to 22 hours a day. You should only take them out for oral hygiene purposes as well as when eating or drinking anything besides water.

Can I get Invisalign for just my upper or lower teeth?

Yes, you can indeed get an Invisalign treatment for a single arch of teeth. Dr. Buchwald can go over your options with you and explain what is needed to help you reach your orthodontic goals.

What are attachments, and what do they have to do with Invisalign?

An attachment is a small shape made out of a special tooth-colored composite material. They can be placed on your teeth to act as handles for your Invisalign aligners. This is to ensure that the right amount of force is applied to the right spots on the teeth to help move them properly. The aligners will fit so smoothly around the attachments that you may not even notice that they’re there much of the time. Once you reach the end of your Invisalign treatment, the attachments will be removed from your teeth. Keep in mind that attachments aren’t always part of the Invisalign process. When planning your treatment, Dr. Buchwald can explain whether attachments are truly necessary depending on the particulars of your situation. Don’t be afraid to speak up if you have any questions related to Invisalign attachments.
